Somatic Shaking
Did you know, after an animal in the wild encounters a threat, they will shake their body to discharge and release the energy of stress. This is a natural physiological response to stress or fear, helping them release built-up adrenaline and tension from the "fight or flight" response; essentially "shaking off" the experience to return to a calmer state. It is a primal instinct. We humans are like animals too. However, we have been disconnected from our natural instincts and intuition and have been conditioned to keep the stress inside. Next time you encounter a threat, whether real or perceived, consider somatic shaking.
Somatic shaking is a powerful technique that allows individuals to regulate their nervous system by releasing stored tension and stress. This practice involves intentionally shaking the body in a rhythmic and controlled manner to activate the body's natural stress-release mechanisms. By engaging in somatic shaking, individuals can reset their nervous system, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
When practicing somatic shaking, it is important to allow the body to move in a way that feels natural and authentic. Start by standing with your feet hip-width apart and gently shake your arms, legs, and torso. Focus on releasing any tension or holding patterns in the body and allow yourself to surrender to the shaking motion. Embrace the experience and trust that your body knows how to release stress and restore balance. After a few minutes of shaking, take a few deep breaths and notice how your body feels more relaxed and grounded.
