Nature Walks for Regulation
One powerful way to regulate your nervous system is through nature walks. Connecting with nature has been shown to decrease stress, improve mood, and increase feelings of well-being. When we spend time outdoors, we engage our senses and allow our bodies to relax and rejuvenate.
During a nature walk, focus on being present in the moment. Pay attention to the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Take slow, deep breaths and notice how your body responds. Allow yourself to let go of any worries or stressful thoughts and simply enjoy the experience of being in nature.
You may also do what is known as "earthing" to help regulate your nervous system, when outside. Earthing involves standing or walking bare foot in the grass or sitting with your hands in the grass/earth. Being barefoot on the earth can theoretically change your body's electrical potential by allowing a transfer of negative ions from the earth, potentially impacting your overall electrical frequency or "Hz" by bringing it closer to the earth's natural frequency, which is considered to be around 7.83Hz; this is thought to have potential benefits for relaxation and stress reduction. When we increase our skin to earth contact, not only are we regulating our nervous system, but also raising our vibrations! It is recommended to do an earthing session for ten to thirty minutes.
